XO is holding my company hostage! This past March our 3 year SIP contract auto renewed to my dismay.

RIGHT after it auto renewed I got an email from an XO rep stating that my agreement had auto renewed. They had informed us by including on our bill that it would. There was no phone call or email prior to the auto renew. They were very deceptive.

I wanted out because of their deceptive practices. They sent our account to collections of which it will soon go on our credit report.

DO NOT do business with these crooks. Under no circumstances.

Location: Dillon, Colorado

The auto-renewal is part of their T&Cs.

To your "dismay" sounds like you did not read your T&Cs.

Or maybe someone else in your company signed the contract and sent you to try to get out of it.

As a former ISP consultant, I've referred customers to XO and several other ISPs.

It amazes me when a consumer comes back disputing something they agreed to and now are "dismayed" when they do not get the easy way out. I also encouraged reading the T&Cs and ask/address any concerns on the front end.

(Just my thoughts as I've come across this millions of times with not only XO but other ISP customers)

Yes... My company has a lot of lines.. and 1 of them was an XO T-1 that was installed in 2001 (11 years ago)... it slipped through the cracks and auto-renued in July... NOW, we lost the business that required the connection :: When I called to disconnect, they tell me I have to pay Early Term Fee of around $18,000.

When I learned of the amount and wanted a waiver, they stopped responding to all communication.

What a bunch of crock!

Yea.. I'm looking for a lawyer.

They are the absolute worst company to deal with. The account reps do not call back and they send you an early termination fee even though you told them not to renew.

Spread the word so others do not get burned. I have no idea why any company would treat a customer in this manner.

Update to my September 14, 2011 Post:

I found a class-action lawsuit where a popular news magazine was sued due to auto-renewing their subscriptions. As a result I hired a large-firm litigation attorney to check into the auto-renewal issue.

He determined that because XO was headquartered in North Carolina, and North Carolina had no laws preventing the practice of auto-renewal without clear notification, that a legal action would be difficult to win. However, because XO's auto-renewal policy is shady because no contract date is listed on XO's bill we were able to contact XO's legal department (via letter) and get them to waive early termination charges. So now we have fiberoptics at half the cost and ten times the speed!!

Was it worth the effort? Why, certainly.

Can you let me know the name of your litigation firm. We are also in Texas.

I just had the same happen to me, they said its on every bill, but I beleive NYS law says they must notify you in writing 15 days before and NO MORE THAN 30 DAYS PRIOR!! that is to avoid this nonsense of putting it on every bill , I will sue them and if someone wants to go along with me I have an attorney that can handle this , 3 years of service for an overpriced(slow internet)company is BS and I wont let them get away with it.

I have to be honest. I have been happy with XO up until today.

We have been with them for 3 years and had 2 T1's for 3mbit. 6 months ago, we needed more speed. AT&T offered us Fiber with 20mbit. We spoke to our account rep at XO and they couldn't offer the same thing so we signed contract with AT&T.

Told XO rep what we were doing and he was very nice. Called XO to make sure they don't auto renew account. Last call I made was on 12/10/13. Asked them what I need to send in to make sure account didn't auto renew and he said nothing.

He knew that AT&T has installed the fiber and we were moving, I made that very clear. He said the calls are recorded and gave me a ref #. Contract was set t expire 1/28/13. To be safe, on 1/19/14, I decided to go on their site and put in a disconnect request.

I even have the email back from them as proof that I requested it. AT&T was supposed to start the porting by 1/28/14 and they didn't. Now XO is telling me that our contract has auto renewed for 3 years. After countless calls to them and doing everything that they told me to do, now it has magically auto renewed and trying to hold us hostage.

I don't think this kind of thing should happen to anyone. I will be speaking to our attorney and invite anyone who wants to join us in a class action against them!

After 10 plus years with this company, we tried to change carriers bc their competitors gave us a much better deal and XO does not offer a lot of services that we want. Also their internet is so slow!

They told us we had to pay $7500 to get out of this auto renewing contract.

What a scam!!!!!! I want to sue!!!

This is the next best thing to Slamming. Ours auto-renewed for 3 years (what???) in January, so I found out when I called them.

The contract said they would notify us from time-to-time that it would renew, and I told them they never sent a notice. They said the notice comes on every bill, and they would be happy to circle it for me and send me a copy. Sure enough, it was mentioned on an attachment to the bill at the end of a bunch of boilerplate verbage that the account would auto-renew. But there is no date mentioned anywhere on the bill, and unless you keep a sticky note on your computer for 3 yrs you'll never remember when that date is coming.

That's where they hook you.

They said we could terminate, but we'd have to pay the rest of our contract out - $15,500!! It is unbelievable to me that they treat customers this way and expect to stay in business.

I would love to get a group together and sue them.

They did the same thing to us. They also sold our 800 # now they want the money for the three year contract. What did you do?
